July 26: Owensboro Museum of Fine Art – Grand Opening of Ryan Park. Museum’s new park will open including an unveiling of a new bronze buffalo statue.

July 28-October 12: Owensboro Museum of Fine ArtKentucky Masters. Exhibit featuring works of Kentucky artists.

June ‘08-June ‘09: International Bluegrass Music MuseumBluegrass Time. Photographs from folk and bluegrass musician, archivist and photographer Phil Zimmerman.

Continuing thru July 6: Owensboro Museum of Fine Art – A Tribute to Joe Downing. An exhibition in celebration of a life and works by the late Kentucky expatriate painter, Joseph Dudley Downing. Features more than 50 works by the artist.

Continuing thru July 6: Owensboro Museum of Fine Art – Thirty Years of Great Art: The Three Dimensional Collection. Three-dimensional objects from the museum’s permanent collection in celebration of the museum’s 30th Anniversary Season.

 

MUSIC & FESTIVALS

July 3: Panther Creek Park – Family Freedom Fireworks Festival. Celebrate nation’s birthday with fireworks and other activities. 6 p.m.

July 4: RiverPark Center – Friday After Five. Music by Black Widow, and a patriotic street fair. 5:30 p.m.

July 4: English Park – A Celebration of the American Spirit. 7 p.m. Owensboro Symphony Orchestra performs patriotic songs to fireworks display.

July 11: RiverPark Center – Friday After Five. Music by 8 Track Factory, with gospel music by Firm Foundation, Gospel Sounds, and Living By Faith. Street fair activities include food safety, cookie decorating, and antique motorcycles. 5:30 p.m.

July 14-29: Daviess Co. Fairgrounds – Daviess Co. Lions Club Fair. Family fun, rides, food, and tractor pulls.

July 18: RiverPark Center – Friday After Five. Music featuring The Jimmy Church Band; gospel music by Southlanders Quartet, Mission of Love Trio, and His Praise; street fair includes a dog parade. 5:30 p.m.

July 25: RiverPark Center – Friday After Five. Music featuring Brat Pack; street fair includes “going green” theme. 5:30 p.m.

 

LIBRARY EVENTS

July 10: Daviess County Public Library –Guitar Hero III Tournament. Tournament for the popular music videogame.

July 15: Daviess County Public Library –“Meet the Author” Leigh Ann Florence. Get tickets starting two weeks before the event. Two times to choose from: 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

July 17: Daviess County Public Library –“Book Discussion” Twilight.  Pre-register and pick up your copy of the book at library to join the discussion. Time: 4-6 p.m. Ages 13-17 only.

Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays: Daviess Co. Public Library – Storytime! Bring children ages 5 and under to hear stories, sing songs, create crafts, play games, and learn early social interaction skills. 10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Tuesdays: Daviess Co. Public Library – Teen Game Days. Come to the Public Lounge every Tuesday afternoon from 3:30 to 6:00 this summer for video games.

Wednesdays: Daviess Co. Public Library – Storybook Art! Bring budding artists ages 3-5 as they learn to create artwork in the styles of master illustrators, with art books as inspiration. 10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Wednesdays: Daviess Co. Public Library – Catch the Reading Bug Activities. Kids 12 and under hear readings on a theme and create fun and unusual objects relating to the stories they hear. Choose from a 2 p.m., 3 p.m., or 4 p.m. session. Some events have prizes!
