With the recent and abrupt closing of the Executive Inn, it seems that the Owensboro downtown area is most definitely going through a transition period. One transition is going to be that of eating the popular buffet at the Executive Inn and finding another place to call home downtown for home cooked meals. Fortunately, Barney’s Café and Grill has arrived and will surely be making sure that Owensboro residents, downtown workers and visitors alike will not leave with an empty stomach or wallet.

Barney’s Café and Grill is located at 420 Frederica St and is next to a familiar downtown attraction in Owensboro – Goldie’s. To go along with a convenient location downtown, Barney’s Café and Grill offers both breakfast and lunch on a daily basis and is open from 7a.m. to 3 p.m. If you are in a hurry and do not have time to sit down and enjoy the food at Barney’s Café and Grill, they are happy to take call-in orders as well.
The breakfast menu at Barney’s Café and Grill has just about every down-home cooked breakfast item that anyone could imagine. Items include eggs, pancakes, French toast, omelets, oatmeal, and grits. The menu also offers up combinations of items for cheaper than you could buy one item at a fast food restaurant and is made fresh daily. Some combinations include eggs with toast, biscuits and gravy, and omelets paired with biscuits and gravy.
Lunch items at Barney’s Café and Grill include everything from sandwiches like hamburgers, ham and cheese, BLT, and fish sandwiches to entree items like pot roast, liver and onions, and fried chicken. Barney’s Café and Grill also offers daily plate lunch specials which include a choice of one entree, three vegetables, and a roll or cornbread for under 7 dollars! For meals like this elsewhere would be upwards of $10 or more and most of the time it would not be home cooked like Barney’s Café and Grill. Daily plate lunch entrees include, chuck wagon steak, meat loaf, chicken livers, Salisbury steak, pork chops. The lunch entrees are specific to each day of the week.
Another unique aspect to Barney’s Café and Grill is the paintings on the walls in the restaurant. They are of different places located throughout Owensboro and are very skillfully done.
With home cooked items served at cheaper prices than most people could buy at other fast food restaurants, a convenient location downtown on Frederica St , and home town feel and atmosphere, Barney’s Café and Grill looks to be a staple in the ever changing downtown area in Owensboro.
