The streaming audio representation of the International Bluegrass
Music Museum
known as RBI (Radio Bluegrass International) will debut three new programs: Banks of the Ohio,
The Bluegrass Review, and Dan Crary’s Classic Bluegrass.
Banks of the Ohio
is a three-hour show on the history of bluegrass hosted by Fred Bartenstein. These episodes will play Thursday mornings from 8 a.m.
till 11 a.m. and archived episodes from the show’s earliest years will air
Sunday mornings from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
The
Bluegrass Review will enlighten bluegrass fans about the evolution of
bluegrass music. In addition, through interviews with today’s players, the show
will give insights into the current scene. Hosted by Phil Nusbaum, from St. Paul, Minnesota, you can listen to an hour of Bluegrass
beginning at 1 p.m. every Thursday.
Dan Crary’s Classic
Bluegrass will showcase “guitar hero” Dan Crary’s personal collection of
bluegrass vinyl every third Sunday at 3 p.m.
Beginning January 3 and continuing
through mid-spring, the Bluegrass
Museum will host weekly
Jam sessions every Thursday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Jam Sessions are
open to the public and only cost $1 to play or attend (FREE for museum
members!). All ages and all skill levels are welcome—all you have to do is show
up and bring your own instruments! Can’t play, but enjoy listening to Bluegrass music? Not a problem—you are welcome to just
sit and listen, or it the mood strikes, you can even get up and dance a jig of
your own. Whether playing, listening, or dancing, you will certainly enjoy your
time at the Jam Sessions!
As a new way to reach the
community, the Bluegrass Museum invites Local Girl Scouts to participate in
“Girl Scouts Day at the Bluegrass
Museum.” Groups of Girls
Scouts, from Daisies to Brownies to the highest level of Girl Scouts, will have
the opportunity to earn their History of
Bluegrass Music Patch by attending a guided tour of the Museum. The Patch
was developed by fellow Girl Scout, Alley White, as apart of her Golden Award.
She created the requirements and designed the patch herself!
Although “Girl Scouts Day” is not
until February 16, registration deadline is early, falling on February 4th,
so I wanted to give you ladies plenty of time to plan to attend! This is a
wonderful opportunity for whole troupes or independent girls, alike, to earn a
fun new patch and learn something about local history as well. If you choose,
you can even go up a step in patch earnings and do a hands-on-experience with
the Mandolin for a fun patch. Whichever patch you choose to earn, you know it
will be achieved with smiles and laughter!
To register or For more information about the “Girl Scouts
Day at the Bluegrass Museum,” please contact local Girl Scout representative
Kristi Harrison at 888-771-5174. The tours are $5 per Girl and the
Hands-on-Experience is $8 per Girl; you pay when you register.
