A Mystifying Glance at Owensboro

Are you looking for something new and different to do in Owensboro? Well I know just the thing: Haunts of Owensboro! What exactly is this you might ask…well, it’s described as a Ghost walking tour of downtown Owensboro. Now, at first I thought it was just the usual Halloween haunted house type thing, but upon investigation, I discovered it is much more! We’re not talking Halloween ghouls and goblins, but actual ghosts, spirits if you will, that are thought to haunt various places around Owensboro including the Trinity Center, home of Theatre Workshop of Owensboro, the Area Museum of Science & History, the Daviess County Courthouse, and several others. Going on this tour will expose you to the history of Owensboro and the world of the paranormal.

The world of the supernatural is something that is extremely familiar to the creator of Haunts of Owensboro, David Wolf. Since childhood, David has enjoyed hearing stories about spirits and happenings, and has even experienced paranormal activity in the form of apparitions and his bed shaking. This interest in paranormal phenomena “led him to learn the history, create the walking route, and craft an interesting and unusual first-of-a-kind ghost and folklore tour in Owensboro.” Storytelling and history are two of David’s passions and he incorporates this love into his tour.

Tours begin at 8pm sharp at The Executive Inn and snake through downtown Owensboro. The exact route is top secret; you won’t know exactly where you’re going until you actually go on the tour. But not knowing only adds to the suspense! David, who extensively researched all of the stops on his tour, will not only lead you to the various locations, but tell you the history and folklore attached to it.

Do you doubt the legitimacy of paranormal activity at these locations? David informed me that professional ghost hunters, equipped with several pieces of equipment, attended a tour during October and were really impressed with all the activity going on at these locations. They told him Owensboro really had some interesting stuff happening. They even heard what sounded like someone exhaling at the Trinity Center (home of TWO) and recorded a presence near one of his patrons. David does caution that sometimes spirits act up and sometimes they don’t – it all depends on their mood. Either way, you are sure to have an interesting experience.

Haunts of Owensboro walking tour is becoming more and more popular each week. Over 70 people showed up one Saturday in October. “Everyone seems to really love it. I’ve had people thanking me for bringing something new to Owensboro” says David. “It’s just wonderful doing something you love!”
