The American Red Cross
Cardinal Chapter is hosting Valentine dinner and music events in Morganfield and
Providence
Thursday, February 14 at 6:30 p.m. to celebrate the works of Clara Barton,
founder of the American Red Cross.
Jonas Cowan, formerly of Clay, will be playing a
selection of folk and contemporary blues at the Green Tea Room behind Baynham’s
at 2201 Westerfield Drive in Providence. Cowan graduated from Webster County
High and went on to study classical music at Murray State University He has been
a professional musician for seventeen years, and has performed at the Bluebird
in Nashville, the Black Diamond in Memphis, the Slippery Noodle in Indianapolis,
the Janis Joplin Birthday Bash in Port Arthur, TX, where Janis was born, and at
the W.C. Handy Festival in Henderson. AmeriCorps members will cater the
meal.
Bill Farmer, of Clay, will be performing at
the Kentucky Farm Bureau Office, located at 1575 US HWY 60W in Morganfield.
Farmer, a former member of Southern Gospel band Crossroads, will be playing
adaptations of several well-known ballads, as well as new original material.
Bill Farmer also graduated from Webster County High, and resides in Clay with
his wife, Shannon, and three daughters. He toured extensively with Crossroads
for five years and currently plays bass for Victory Baptist Church in
Madisonville. This event marks his solo debut and is currently working on his
first solo album. The Job Corps Culinary students will be preparing the
meal.
When Bill Farmer was invited to take part
in this event, he responded, “I’ve been a Red Cross supporter in the past, and
I’m glad for an opportunity to help further their mission.”
Proceeds from this event will go towards
educational and Emergency preparedness programs offered by the Red Cross and
will benefit those in the Henderson, Union and Webster county service area.
Tickets ($20) are on sale now, and may be purchased by contacting Red Cross
staff at (270) 826-2775. Tickets will be on sale until Monday, February 11, and
seating is limited.
