Pure BS. Some days
that exactly what we listen to all day long. We want to get in our vehicle and
drive home, getting all that BS out of our heads. Blake Shelton, country music
entertainer of nine years, humorously named his fourth and newest album Pure BS, but it’s anything but. Penning
three tracks on the album, Pure BS,
is dubbed “traditional-minded but produced with a contemporary edge.”
Shelton moved to Nashville,
TN, at the tender age of 17 and
signed on with Giant Records in no time. By 2001, Blake released the hit
single, “Austin”
that shot to #1 on the country charts, but when Giant Records folded in 2001,
Blake promptly moved to Warner Bros. Records. After enjoying success with
“Austin,” Blake landed two more number one hits and several top 20’s,
including, “Some Beach” and “Goodbye Time.”
As Shelton’s career grew, so
did his appeal. In 2005, he landed the coveted opening spot on the Rascal
Flatts Tour, Here’s To You and has
signed on to be a judge on the hit show, Nashville Star 2007.
The new
album, Pure BS, is a reflection of
what Blake has been through recently. After a divorce from long-time love,
Kaynette Williams, he moved back to his hometown of Ada,
Oklahoma because he never felt totally
comfortable in Nashville.
“They’re all pretty much were I am as a person right now. It’s not that bad of
a place. I’ve been through some tough times but . . . I feel good right now. I
want to sing about a lot of those things I’ve gone through and a lot of those
emotions. That’s what’s going to help me come through a better person on the
other side,” states Shelton.
Shelton currently resides in Oklahoma where his newest endeavor is being
a choir director. NBC will premiere the new show Clash of the Choirs and Blake Shelton will be directing numerous
amateurs, gearing them up to compete against other choirs directed by
celebrities.
Blake
Shelton’s songs aren’t about some guy, somewhere, they are about him and you
and me. We can relate to the content and according to Shelton, that is the whole point. “I will
never stop looking for that next level of my career and how to get there, but
not for the reasons that a lot of people want to get there,” he says. “I’m not
chasing a dollar and I’m not trying to be the king of the mountain. I want to
be that guy who, when some old guy is driving down a back road somewhere 20
years from now, he still has one of my old CDs that he’s been listening to all
that time. I want to make those albums that [last] forever that people never
throw away. When they break it they go buy another one because I sing songs
that they really relate to and my music means something to them. That’s what
I’m chasing.”
