The power of music has long been a source of healing, entertainment, motivation, and more. Indeed “music” has a solid track record of bringing hope to us at times when it seems there is none available. In fact, I would argue that the foundation of music is to bring joy to all.
So, I present to you the following equation:
The Executive Inn Rivermont has been in the music business for over 30 years.
• The Tri-State Region is home to some of the best talent in the nation.
• And Owensboro’s own “Goodfellows Club” is an organization devoted 100% to helping kids.
• The “Trinity” known as: ROCKIN’ for KIDS
Friday, November 30, 2007 the Executive Inn Rivermont will host the Second Annual Rockin’ for Kids benefit concert in the historic Showroom Lounge overlooking the majestic Ohio River. Proceeds benefit the Goodfellows Club annual Christmas party.
The event began in 2006 and was an overwhelming success. The first year raised $4,000 for the Goodfellows club and featured four local bands performing. This year, the goal is to raise $5000.
This year the lineup includes: Kaptain Crunch and the Cereal Killers, RUKKUS, and August Christopher. The bands perform either for free or at SUBSTANTIALLY reduced rates in their effort to support the cause.
The goal of ROCKIN FOR KIDS is to raise as much money as possible to help fund the GoodFellows Club annual Christmas party at the Owensboro Sportscenter. For years the Goodfellows Club has provided presents, food, and holiday cheer to children throughout our community. For many of these families and children, the Goodfellows Club Christmas party was their entire Christmas.
It is difficult to put into words the impact the Goodfellows have had on our community. If you measure value according to the number of lives that have been touched, then the Goodfellows Club is certainly an INVALUABLE part of our community. If you measure value by smiles on children’s faces, then the Goodfellows Club is definitely the smile champion when it comes to holiday cheer. Let’s add to all of that the simple fact that 100% of all funds – the entire budget – for the Goodfellows Club – are used directly to benefit children. That is amazing!
The Executive Inn Rivermont created and developed ROCKIN FOR KIDS as part of their commitment to the community. They participate in many charitable events throughout the entire year but were searching for a signature event to give back to the community. They found it with ROCKIN FOR KIDS.
“The most gratifying aspect of our work here at the Executive Inn Rivermont, is our ability and desire to use our resources to help others. We are proud to be a part of this community, grateful to have such wonderful partners, and honored to be able to play a small role in helping to make the holiday season a little bit brighter for our brothers and sisters in this community,” said a management official with the hotel, who wished to remain anonymous (Ha! Someone editing this has an idea of who…-- ed).
As for the bands, there has been an outpouring of acts wishing to donate their time for the cause. Unfortunately, we only have so many hours in the day. This year’s lineup features: Kaptain Crunch and the Cereal Killers, Owensboro Rockers RUKKUS, and regional favorites AUGUST CHRISTOPHER. There will also be surprises throughout the night. This is a concert you do not want to miss!
Tickets are only $10 and are limited to the first 600 sold. They are available at the box office and will also be available at the door day of show. The Executive Inn Rivermont is also offering a special “Rockin” room rate of only $79 plus tax for those wishing to “Take the Elevator Home!”
Doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 8pm and lasting until midnight. This is an “ALL AGES” show so bring the kiddos.
The Goodfellows Club will also have a booth set up accepting additional donations and passing out information about their work and efforts to benefit the children in our area.
So, the bottom line is that at least for one day this year, the power of Rock and Roll will indeed overcome all obstacles and bring hope and joy to our community. The question is do you want to be a part of that? I think you do and this writer strongly encourages everyone to buy your tickets early, bring your family, friends, and neighbors, and spend an evening supporting a noble cause while enjoying some of our great local talent!
When we all unite for a common cause the possibilities are undoubtedly endless. Join the Goodfellows Club, the Executive Inn Rivermont, and some great bands for a magical night of musical passion devoted to helping humanity’s most wonderful gift: our children.
