Are you looking for a way to contribute to the Owensboro community? Well, I have two wonderful opportunities for you to do just that: the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden Annual Plant Sale and the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra’s A Symphony of Fine Wines Fundraiser. These are both great ways to help two very different, yet vital organizations in our community.

On Saturday, April 26, the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden will host their annual Plant Sale. With the proceeds going right back into the Gardens, this is their main fundraiser of the year – and they need your help to make it a success.

From 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., you can browse the gardens, admire all the beautiful plants, and of course purchase some to take home with you. They will have several varieties of pre-annuals, annuals, and herbs for sale. Some of the pre-annuals available will be Daylilies, Hastas, and several varieties of Cornflowers and Echinacea. They will also feature the Pre-Annual of the Year, the Hasta of the Year, and the Herb of the Year as deemed by their respective associations.

“People look forward to the Plant Sale because they know we’re going to have something unique for their gardens,” says coordinator Barbara Russ. “We want to provide plants that you might not find in your regular nurseries.”

This year’s featured new and unique plant is the beautifully stunning Jack ‘N’ the Pulpit. This dazzling flower will most definitely add a special flair to your home garden.

This is an excellent opportunity to help out the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden, learn something new, and beautify your home garden all in the same day.

On Friday, April 25, from 6 – 9 p.m. at Independence Bank (2425 Frederica Street), join the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra for an elegant evening enjoying “A Symphony of Fine Wines.” They will have four to six delicious and very expensive fine wines from Napa Valley for you to taste, as well as unique cheese and bread to cleanse the palate. Live piano entertainment will fill the hall with lovely music as you dine on some scrumptious heavy h’orderves.

Following the wine and cheese tasting, an auction of hand-painted items from local artists will take place. They will have items such as chest-of-drawers, music stands, instrument cases, and chairs all uniquely decorated and pertaining to music, as well as an original Rex Robinson oil painting to auction off.

Sponsored by Brinker’s Jewelers, Bryant Distributing Company, and Independence Bank, this is an excellent opportunity to experience something unique to Owensboro and a great way to help a very worthy organization continue to make beautiful music and delight Owensboro for years to come.

However you choose to contribute to the Owensboro community, just make sure it comes from the heart.
