The Sunset Series Brightens Downtown Once Again!

For those of you wondering what to do on Friday nights this summer, I have exciting news for you: The Sunset Series is back! This fantastic event was put on a brief hiatus when the Executive Inn closed, but thanks to the City of Owensboro and Sprint, this FREE outdoor concert series will continue to entertain the crowds!

The Mitch McConnell Plaza will continue to play host to the Sunset Series, although you will see a few changes such as a new stage area. The added enjoyment of the Riverfront being mere feet away will only add to this unique and thrilling atmosphere. All ages are welcome to enjoy these concerts, although you must be 21 to drink. Food and drinks are supplied by Moonlight BBQ – some of the best BBQ in the country.

Wildly popular in years past, the Sunset Series offers the Tri-state a FREE, fun source of live entertainment located in the heat of Owensboro.

The Series is tentatively set to happen every Friday night thru August 29, but that all depends on you! Kerry Bodenheimer, from the City Parks Department, says in order for the Series to be successful they “need the crowds to be there.”

“Everyone is trying to keep it going. The City of Owensboro stepped up to help out because they understood the importance of this event to the community. Even the bands took a decrease in pay. They enjoy performing at the Sunset Series and also know how good it is for the community.”

This event could not take place without the additional sponsorship of several local businesses and organizations including: Moonlight BBQ, Kentucky Monthly, Don Moore, the Epilepsy Foundation, the Autism Support Network of Owensboro, and Media partners: Fox 7, 93.9 Rock, and your own Publications of News4U. Even so, in order for The Sunset Series to stick around, they need additional funding to keep it going. If you or your business is willing to become a sponsor, please contact Kerry Bodenheimer at the City Parks Department at 687-8700.

Event co-coordinators have certainly worked hard to keep you entertained by putting together a superb roster of entertainment! You will hear every genre of music from high energy rock to Led Zeppelin to the Blues and even Rock and Soul.  Music groups such as StompBox 40, Winds of Thor, The Beat Daddy’s, and The Velvet Bombers will have you jumping up and down and thoroughly enjoying yourself. You will experience entertainment you cannot find anywhere else in Owensboro.

So take an evening off from your stressful week and relax under the stars. You will not be disappointed!
