Although the name Dylan Gibbs may not be instantly recognizable, you are DG.jpgholding his issue in your hands right now, literally. In fact, he holds the record for the longest surviving editor News 4U magazine has ever had! His other issue, a wee lad named Lincoln who is nearly a year old now, ain’t bad either. Gibbs is a lifelong writer (“…starting in the walls in my childhood home.” he recalls), Evansville resident, an expert on fish and aquariums, a guitarist for local band Tragic Heroine, and a guest in your living room via Fox 7’s morning show, AM Evansville. But this month marked his very last deadline here, so who knows what or where he has yet to be. What is for certain is that everyone I know would heartily agree with his answer to #23. He will be missed, but we’ll always have these last few moments from the Hot Seat… 

 


#1 What is the most comforting comfort food?
Anything with gravy. I like to eat food that used to walk. An unapologetic carnivore.

 
#2 Dish on your favorite celebrity encounter!
A ridiculously drunk Kenny Loggins at an oceanside bar in South Carolina. He bought drinks, passed around the pipe, and then got seriously into the Danger Zone. I interviewed Alton Brown once, which was my favorite. He described himself as the “World’s grooviest home ec teacher.”

CD – the Telarc recording of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony
DVD – Pink Floyd’s Live at Pompeii
Book – Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey

 #4 Will you reveal your most embarrassing obsession?
Sure. Not an obsession, per se, but I believe The Cure’s “Close to Me” is the most perfect song, which doesn’t mesh with my metal heritage so much.

One that runs on Stupid. There’s a lot of that just lying around.

#6 Cat person or a dog person?
I really like both a lot, but I lean toward cats a little more I guess. They’re not as needy as dogs.

#8 Do you have any tattoos or other interesting distinguishing characteristics, like webbed toes?
I have a tattoo that I’d rather not have. It looks like something I might have gotten in prison with a makeshift ink gun made out of vacuum cleaner parts. What’s more interesting is that I have a supernumerary, or third, nipple. Marky Mark has one too.

I asked around and the consensus is Anthony Bourdain. Harpo Marx came in a close second.

Good tasty beer. Shiraz wine. Bourbon. Not all at once, usually.

Hands down, Gene Simmons when I was little, 1979 or so… It had blood and everything.

Indoor plumbing. There is positively no way to better engineer a method for transporting what needs to be evacuated from your toilet. It works, it’s hidden from view, and without it we’d all die of dysentery.

#18 Have you ever been arrested? Details!
Yes. But it was when I was a minor, so technically it didn’t happen. Something illegal was indeed involved, though.

To Jesus: “You’re cool and all, but when and if you come back from the dead, will you be able to tolerate the people who dig you?”

Listen to people older than you. The Devil knows more because he’s old than because he’s the Devil.

The ability to travel the world at a whim.

In the real world, Maui. There’ve been a number of rather, um, lysergic visits that were pretty neat, too.

I was a nice guy, I guess. I know what it’s like to be on the receiving end of a douchebag’s wrath; so I like to not be that guy (or lady).
