Raymond's in his Sunday best,
He's usually up to his chest in oil an' grease.
There's the Martin's walkin' in,
With that mean little freckle-faced kid,
Who broke a window last week.
Sweet Miss Betty likes to sing off key in the pew behind me.

That's what I love about Sunday:
Sing along as the choir sways;
Every verse of Amazin' Grace,
An' then we shake the Preacher's hand.

– Craig Morgan

We all know a sweet “Miss Betty” who sings her worship songs completely off key at the top of her lungs, but my favorite saying is, “Psalm 110:1 says make a joyful noise; it says nothing about being good.”

We all need a pick-me-up in our lives and there is no better way than through song. On August 23rd, out in the boonies of Philpot, sweet sounds will fill the air with praise and worship, Gospel music and speakers who will be giving glory to God.

The music festival goes from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and will host activities, food and music all day. However, the coolest part about this project is what the donations will support.

According to Hammer, TunnelVision drummer and Unchained committee member, it came to the attention of members of Dawson Baptist Church (where members of TV attend) that the Daviess County Detention Center was in need of a chapel. Inmates are finding a relationship with God, but the relationship is not fostered. Local taxes can not go towards building a Christian chapel, so, it is up to the community of Owensboro to privately fund the operation. According to Hammer, once an inmate is saved and goes through the program, he or she is eligible for early parole. Once out and on parole, he or she is mandated by the court to attend worship services with his or her accountability partner. It is a wonderful opportunity to help out those who are on the wrong path.

Bring the whole family down to a day of music, food, fun and worship to Dawson Baptist Church on Hwy 54 in Philpot (across from Post Office). For more information, call (270) 993-6214.

Members from the band who is set to play last on the list, TunnelVision, sat down with me and spoke about their reasons for playing.

N4U: What is the purpose of TunnelVision?
TV: Really, we are doing it to glorify God. It’s not about us. We think of it as a ministry; to spread the Gospel.

How long has TV been together?
We put the band together in April. We have done both religious and secular gigs such as the Heritage Festival and a YMCA lock-in. [Hammer] Outside of my family, TV is the coolest thing I’ve ever been a part of!

Who do you anticipate will attend the festival?
We love playing in churches but I want to reach people who don’t know the Gospel. You have to get someone lost before you can get them found!

Do you write your own music?
We are currently in the process.
